I'm not sure about the model name, but it's at least a similar model. I think "Before the Big Bang" is a design by Thoki Yenn, but again, I'm not sure. All pointers would be appreciated.

Well, all i know about that
Well, all i know about that name is the little picture story in Kunihiko Kasahara's book "Extreme Origami", it says that Thoki Yenn presented him an arching form of curves and folds that Thoki called "Before the Big Bang".
I also dont know the purpose of the name, but the little picture story is quite interesting

Not quite diagrams, but...
You might find this page helpful: http://erikdemaine.o...
I think you can achieve this model by using a donut-shaped sheet of paper (ie a circle with a hole), and zig-zag folding it. As it will be near to impossible to fold this nicely, using a curved ruler and a bone folder or so to score the paper might be the way to go.
As a disclaimer: I haven't tried this, just looked at the picture. It might be that rather than a circle, an oval was used.
